Today, information on botanical collections is made more accessible through digitization, database development and internet. Virtual herbarium or Digital herbarium is an excellent example for such efforts and it is a database of dried plants. NAS College virtual herbarium is a collection of digital images of the herbarium collections maintained at the Botany department. These images also provide label data on each species which include information about the family, genus, species, collector, collection number, collection date, locality, habit and habitat. JPEG images of herbarium specimens under good resolution are provided that will help the users to identify the plant species. Users can browse the specimens by botanical name. Digital images of herbarium specimens can never replace the physical herbarium. However, this is the only means by which the large quantities of data can be made readily available and will provide faster access to specimens for researchers throughout the world.
